25 members had joined the captioned visit organized by the Electrical Division on 21 July 2018.

After enjoying the refreshments and welcome drinks, Mr. Tenny Kwok, Director of Building Maintenance of The Murry Hotel and Ir Sherman Tong of Wong & Ouyang (Building Services) Limited gave the member a presentation about the background of the revitalization project of Murray Building.  Murry Building was one of several historic landmarks repurposed under the Conserving Central Initiative Project to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong SAR.  To ensure the building could comply with the latest statutory requirement, a number of structural reinforcement and modification work had to be carried out.

Moreover, to shorten the construction time, an innovative modular-based pipe and duct installation method was introduced.  The module were pre-assembled off-site and then delivered to the site for final assembly.  It can help reducing the work space required and installation time at site with improved work quality.

After the presentation, a guided tour to the guest rooms, the new rooftop restaurant and the signature features of the building preserved, such as the imposing 3-storey arches and distinctive recessed windows, was arranged.  To reduce the energy consumption, an intelligent monitor and control system is adopted to control the lightning and air conditioning of the guest rooms. The air-conditioning as well as the lighting will be cut-off if no person is detected inside the guest room.

Through this technical visit, all members acquired an in-depth understanding the revitalization projects and the operations of the new 5-star hotel.  Taking this opportunity, the Electrical Division would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. Tenny Kwok and Ir Sherman Tong for their generous hospitality and make this visit fruitful and successful.
