ReportLocal Technical Visit to China Mobile Global Network Center

The Government published the Smart City Blue City for Hong Kong in Dec 2017 and second version in Dec 2020. One of the key successful factors would be the data sharing across the organizations and industries, whilst Data Center is one of the key infrastructures to support the development. To understand the design and operation of the Data Center, on 30 Jun 2022, the HKIE Electrical Division organized a technical visit to The China Mobile Global Network Center (GNC), locates in the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate. It is an international network exchange hub, internet data center and global network operation center, with a total floor at 24,355 square meters. It is a power data center platform to fulfill the present and future needs of financial industry, internet, and information technology.
The GNC is designed according to the Tier IV standard and achieved Tier III + standard. To ensure high operation reliability, the center is supplied with dual power supply sources, and with 7 x 24 safety management and operations, including CCTV Monitoring System, Building Management System, Data Security Monitoring System, and IT Network Monitoring System.
The GNC is a green building and certified with “Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) – Gold” and “Building Environmental Assessment Method (BEAM) Plus Certification”
Through this visit, members gained knowledge about the development of Data Center design and operation, and also how this critical infrastructure to support the development of digital era in Hong Kong.
