ReportBy Ir Dr. Y. K. Chu
The Annual Symposium of Electrical Division was successfully held on 20 October 2022. It is a signature annual function for electrical engineers and our fellow professional friends in Hong Kong. Like last year, the Symposium was conducted in hybrid mode, with more than 350 participants attending on-site and online.
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the Annual Symposium since the first one held in 1983. To celebrate our signature event for 40 years in a row, the Electrical Division specially designed a logo embedding the number ‘40’ which carries a double meaning of ‘for zero’, matching our symposium theme “Co-Innovation for Zero”.
The theme of the Symposium focused on new initiatives and applications of electrical engineering targeting for carbon neutrality, in response to the Climate Action Plan 2050 of Hong Kong with the vision of Zero-carbon Emissions, and the aim for combating climate change.
The Symposium was kicked off by an Opening Address from Ir Raymond Poon, JP, Deputy Director of Electrical & Mechanical Services Department, and a Keynote Speech by Ir Professor Christopher Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. A total of ten technical papers were presented by speakers from public and private sectors, academic institution, power utilities and mass transit in different sessions of the Symposium, and the papers were all well received by audience. Our HKIE President, Ir Aaron Bok, concluded the Symposium with a Closing Address which ended the event on a high note.
The Division would like to express our greatest gratitude to all parties including paper authors, speakers, sponsors, the working team and liaison committee members for their contributions as well as the support from participants. Their concerted efforts and support made the Symposium this year another success.
