Programme
Highlights:
To alleviate flood risk in Wan Chai and Happy Valley area, DSD
commenced the Happy Valley underground stormwater storage scheme (HVUSS) in
2012. The scheme, which included the construction
of a 60 000 m3 stormwater storage tank and box culvert under the
Happy Valley racecourse, is to provide flood attenuation in the Happy Valley
catchment during severe rainstorms of intensity up to that of a 1 in 50 years
rainstorm event. The first phase of the
project was completed in 2015 while the second phase of the project had been
put into operation in end 2017.
The HVUSS is the first flood storage tank with
“Movable Crest Weir” in Hong Kong. With the
“Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition” (SCADA) system, the overflow weir
system is controlled according to the real-time tidal level, water levels
inside the storage tank as well as the flow of stormwater at the upstream and
downstream of the box culvert. This allows overflowing of stormwater from the
box culvert to the tank to be invoked at the optimal time.
The visit will introduce the project background, daily
operations, management methods of the facility. It is also aimed to
understand the innovative technologies and sustainable design concept of the
project, with an on-site walk-through visit - if weather permits - to the
underground stormwater storage tank with capacity of 60,000 m³.
Registration:
The
visit is free of charge to HKIE members. The number of participants will be
limited to 30 based on a first-come-first-served principle; however, priority
will be given to the members of the Electrical Division. Separate email notification will be sent to
successful applicants after the enrolment deadline. Details of the visit will be advised to the
successful applicants. If you wish to
join this technical visit, please register online at https://goo.gl/forms/8Co2qAQxNAJ9CqIf2 before 14 April 2018. Successful
