The Prize Presentation Ceremony of the Energy Innovation for Smart City Competition was held on 4 July at the New World Millennium Hong Kong Hotel. The Competition was jointly organized by The HKIE - Electrical Division and CLP Power, with the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as co-organizer and supported by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council. Out of the 101 participating teams, 10 teams entered the final. 40 students of the 10 finalist teams joined the Ceremony together with their parents and teachers. The Ceremony reached its climax with the announcement of the final results. Besides the grand awards for the top three winners, six special prizes were also granted to outstanding teams. These awards went to:

The prizes were presented to the winners by Ir Alfred Sit, Director of EMSD, Ms Lena Low, Senior Director of Customer & Business Development, CLP Power and other honourable guests. A study tour to Japan was arranged for the champion team during the summer vacation to broaden their engineering knowledge.

 

A mini-exhibition was also set up in the venue for the finalists to display and demonstrate their projects. The exhibition attracted a lot of attention from the guests. They were amazed by the creative ideas of the students and highly appreciated their efforts and the quality of work. The Competition was considered to be a good channel in promoting students’ awareness on energy efficiency as well as arousing their interests in engineering.
