Technical Webinar - Smart Village

The Government published the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong in December 2017, setting out 76 initiatives under six smart areas, namely “Smart Mobility”, “Smart Living”, “Smart Environment”, “Smart People”, “Smart Government” and “Smart Economy”. Among them, the digital infrastructure projects and other major initiatives have been implemented as planned in the past four years.

In pace with the Wi-Fi 6, 5G technology and IOT development, “Smart Village\Smart Community” is the leading concept for future development. Unlike traditional concept, “Smart Village” is not only for monitoring purposes, but also for improving our lifestyle and providing a safe and enjoyable life for us in the coming years.  “Smart village” may likely change our living habits and become indispensable to life for the next generation.

Technical Webinar on Smart Village

The HKSAR Government published the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong in December 2017, setting out 76 initiatives under six smart areas, namely “Smart Mobility”, “Smart Living”, “Smart Environment”, “Smart People”, “Smart Government” and “Smart Economy”. Among them, the digital infrastructure projects and other major initiatives have been implemented as planned in recent years, for example, the Faster Payment System, installing free public Wi-Fi hotspots, and the “iAM Smart” one-stop personalised digital services platform. In the way forward, the Government set out Blueprint 2.0 which puts forth over 130 initiatives which continue to enhance and expand existing city management measures and services. The new initiatives aim to bring benefits and convenience to the public so that residents can better perceive the benefits from smart city and innovation and technology (I&T) in their daily lives.

The EL Division organised the webinar on Smart Village on 18 January 2022 to talk about the latest development and examples on smart development. There were over 400 participants who attended the webinar. The webinar was shared by Ir Ivan Law and Mr. Winson Wang.

Ir Ivan Law, who is an experienced engineer in project management, shared with us the future development for sustainable design and green living. He also talked about the vision of staying well and health care for elderly and the development capacity for young people using smart building technology. Furthermore, he furnished us with actual examples on the application of smart villages by implementing smart control and information management systems. By adopting various smart control systems, we are able to achieve effective management in terms of access control, information collection and energy management.

The second part was shared by Mr. Winson Wang from Huawei Technologies. He introduced the latest development on smart campus solutions in Asia including Singapore and China. Smart campus system allows the operation and management team to integrate security services, campus network, facilities management and energy management. With the aid of IoT and big data, it can effectively monitor the running status and analysis management opportunity as well as providing intelligent warning to the operator.

The session wrapped up with a glance of the future of smart city and a well-handled question-and-answer session.
