By Ms. Jenny Lin

To strengthen technical exchange and cooperation between electrical engineers in the Mainland and Hong Kong, and to foster the cohesive development of Guangdong and Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and the Guangdong Society for Electrical Engineering (GSEE) jointly conducted in-depth research on the mutual recognition of electrical engineer qualifications between the two places.  In 2021, HKIE and GSEE reached and signed an agreement of mutual recognition of qualifications.

The Electrical Division jointly with GSEE conducted a hybrid (online and physical) Seminar on 9 July 2022 to promote and encourage the HKIE members to apply for GSEE membership.  Ir Dr. Edward Lo, Chairman of the HKIE Electrical Discipline Advisory Panel, Mr. Yang Xu, Executive Director cum Chief Secretary and Mr. He Jie, Director of General Department of the GSEE were invited to the Seminar. Over 160 HKIE members attended the Seminar.

In the Seminar, background and objective of the MRA, and organization of GSEE were introduced.  Details of GSEE membership application process for obtaining qualification as an electrical engineer under the GSEE through the MRA were briefed, including criteria, academic and experience requirements of candidate, competence standards and areas, candidate’s document submission, requirements on professional assessment interview, essay and technical report writing, application assessment process etc.
