Event Report - The 37th Electrical Division Symposium “Innovation for Engineering Advancement”

The 37th Electrical Division Symposium was successfully held on 24th October 2019. As a traditional annual get-together function for electrical engineers and related professional friends for knowledge exchange and networking, the Symposium had a record-high attendance this year.

 

The main theme of the Symposium was “Innovation for Engineering Advancement”, with focus on innovative ideas and initiatives to be adopted in the field of electrical engineering. Papers on smart airport, multi-illuminator passive radar technology applications, environmentally friendly switchgear, EV charging, retro-commissioning, IoT enabled smart building operation and maintenance, 5G applications, and machine learning, were presented.

 

The Symposium was kicked off by an opening speech from the HKIE President, Ir Ringo Yu, followed by the keynote speech by Mr K.K. Ling, Director of Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation, Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU) Eight technical papers, divided into 4 sessions in according to their scopes of discussion, by speakers from different public and private sectors, academic institutes, utility power company and mass transit were delivered. Mr Vivek Mahbubani, a local stand-up comedian, was also invited as a special guest this year to give a talk on innovation. The Symposium was concluded by Ir Prof. H.C. Man, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, HKPolyU.
