The CLP Energy Innovation for Smart City Competition 2019/20 had been launched for enrolment in September 2019. Secondary school students were encouraged to propose innovative ideas on sustainable energy usage and low carbon initiatives for smart city. The Competition was jointly organized by The HKIE - Electrical Division and CLP Power, with the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as co-organizer and supported by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and the Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council. Out of over 70 submissions, 36 has been selected for developing their ideas into projects. The students have to present their projects in May and the 10 most outstanding teams will enter the final.

To let the students learn more about low carbon technology applications, a visit to EMSD Education Path and Kai Tak District Cooling System was held on 7 December. Another visit to CLP SmartHub will be organized in early 2020 to inspire student’s creativity through various examples of innovative initiatives. Young engineers will also be assigned to the participating teams as mentors to provide advices during their project development.
