The CLP
Energy Innovation for Smart City Competition 2019/20 had been launched for enrolment
in September 2019. Secondary school students were encouraged to propose
innovative ideas on sustainable energy usage and low carbon initiatives for
smart city. The Competition was jointly organized by The HKIE - Electrical Division and CLP
Power, with the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as
co-organizer and supported by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department
and the Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council. Out of over 70 submissions,
36 has been selected for developing their ideas into projects. The students have
to present their projects in May and the 10 most outstanding teams will enter
the final.
To
let the students learn more about low carbon technology applications, a visit
to EMSD Education Path and Kai Tak District Cooling System was held on 7 December.
Another visit to CLP SmartHub will be organized in early 2020 to inspire
student’s creativity through various examples of innovative initiatives. Young
engineers will also be assigned to the participating teams as mentors to
provide advices during their project development.
